Iconic Americana has always caught my attention. Coca Cola. Muscle Cars. Sky scrapers. Hand drawn signs on the sides of the less traveled highway. The simple pleasures of American daily life have always been our biggest cultural export. Over the years I’ve captured images of all these little details, finding meaning and form in the mundane of everyday life. Because of the power of these forms the result is an image that questions the circumstance around the image that was taken. Was it 20 or 30 years ago and in a southern suburb or yesterday in a sprawling city? America and its icons, big or small, are timeless, powerful, and continue to resonate. In this image we have a classic car covered with just a peak of its rear wheel showing. Though the car is not totally exposed we can see that it’s a beautiful machine that has been impeccably cared for. It sits in the driveway on a city block in a lower middle income neighborhood that give no bold clues as to where we are. The only thing we can tell is that whatever is under that cover is a source of pride.
