As they say “The bay calls the day” and the bay had also chose to deliver Luke Shepardson the best possible waves and to be the winner of the historical event. Luke surfed his heart out during his heats and it showed when he scored 89.1 out of the possible 90 points. This wave here was one of the many outstanding waves caught by Luke and you can see he was as deep as he could be. 

Luke did not only win the event but he won the love and support from the community from his actions. After surfing his two heats and even being crowned the winner he went back to work at the Waimea Bay lifeguard stand to make sure everyone made it back home safe.
